The International Special Events Society (ISES) was founded in 1987 to foster enlightened performance through education while promoting ethical conduct. ISES works to join professionals to focus on the "event as a whole" rather than its individual parts. ISES has grown to involve over 7,000 members active in 42 chapters throughout the world. The solid peer network ISES provides helps special events professionals produce outstanding results for clients while establishing positive working relationships with other event colleagues.

ISES members and the global industry are experiencing an unprecedented economic and political upheaval -- costing jobs and discouraging businesses from using events and meetings to drive results.

Like other industry organizations, we are committed to keeping our community connected wtih the latest information and resources. ISES is monitoring these issues and will continue to provide information and updates as situations warrant.

The US Treasury Department issued proposed regulations that require boards of directors of companies who have received funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to establish revised policies for all meetings, events, and incentive/recognition travel in additional to other requirements. The board of governors of ISES joins other industry leaders in recognizing that government regulation of corporate meetings and travel policies is a dangerous trend in any industry. In the US alone events and meetings are responsible for 15% of all travel, create over an estimated $200 billion in annual spending, generate nearly 2.4 million jobs and provide approximately $40 billion in tax revenue.
