Dear ISES Los Angeles:
I was sorry to miss the wonderful meeting at Crustacean Restaurant. I heard fabulous reports about the venue and the food!
However, while you were eating Chinese in Beverly Hills, my husband Howard and I were eating Chinese in Beijing, China! We had a wonderful trip, and I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting in June.
Thanks to the board and the hard working committees for all that they do. It's great to know that everything runs smoothly whether I am there or not.
Please note that since our CPR class on June 9thwas sold out we will do our best to schedule another one in a few months. Watch for an announcement on that via Cvent or the website.
Members: please remember to check out the ISES Community at www.ISES.com
Hope you had a good Memorial Day holiday and are looking forward to a fruitful summer.
Best,
Carol

ISES LA Board Member Spotlight
Sarajane Landun, 2008/2009 VP of Education/Programs
When and why did you join ISES?
I joined ISES in 2006 and was encouraged to join to build my network and to develop relationships amongst my peers in the industry.
What made you want to join the event industry?
It takes a certain person to be in this industry. You must be detail-oriented, organized, quick on your toes, creative and passionate. I am definitely all of the above!
What is your top suggestion for people just getting into the industry?
Join organizations such as ISES, MPI, ABC, NACE, HSMAI, etc. and start to build your network and get involved on committee work. Stay focused and follow your passion!
Do you have one event that you've always dreamt about doing?
My list would be too long, but if I had to choose one it would be the Academy Awards!
Do you have a favorite project that you've worked on?
One of my favorite projects that I have worked on was the Amgen Tour of California. It was an eight day event that started in San Francisco and ended in Long Beach. We were responsible for all of the VIP tents throughout each race day. It was my favorite because it was a logistical challenge. We actually were referred this event from another ISES member that was located in the UK.
Do you have one person in this industry that has helped you get where you are today?
Yes, the one person that has really been a fabulous mentor to me is Carol Saunders from Grand Events. She has been in this industry for 20 years and has been a wealth of knowledge and a tremendous support. What benefits have resulted from your ISES involvement?
I have met several new people throughout the years and have developed not only business relationships, but wonderful friendships.

Sarajane recently launched a new event planning company - SJL Events!
