A Letter from our President
 | Carol Roleder
2011/2012 ISES LA President |
Happy Fall, ISES Los Angeles! It's hard to believe September has come and gone and October is threatening to do the same! If you're a native Southern California resident like me, you know it's not always easy to tell when one season changes to the next. We pretty much take for granted the fact that the sun will be out on any given day, until a random rain cloud reminds us that a new season has arrived without our knowing. For people in other parts of the country, seasons can change, literally, over night. One thing is sure, regardless of where you live; a change in season usually means a change in landscape and with that, a new perspective of what is on the horizon. So with a few shifts in our landscape behind us, here's a peak at what's on the horizon for ISES Los Angeles as we move from one season to the next. First of all, I want to extend a tremendous thank you and nod of appreciation to all of our exhibitors, showcasers, vendors, attendees, speakers, and committee and board members who put on another spectacular showing at our September event, the Joint Allied Mixer (JAM). Our educational program was well-received, and an impressive display was created on the tradeshow floor by some of our showcase companies. Be sure to check out the photos from the event and see the great products and services our chapter has to offer. With the JAM under our belt, our Programs team has been working diligently to put together a fantastic list of "Who's Who" for our upcoming signature event, Meet the Masters, on November 14, 2011. This year it will be held at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, and will prove to be another successful evening of intimate Q&A with a host of Masters from various disciplines in our industry. So sign up early. This is always a sold-out event! One of the more obvious changes in our chapter is our current opening for an Executive Director position. If you or someone you know is interested in interviewing for this position, please email jpoyer@catalinaconservancy.org. You can also view the job posting on the ISES LA website. Last, if leadership is something you have always been interested in, this is the perfect time to consider becoming involved on a committee or being on our chapter board. We have several opportunities for potential board and committee members and would love to speak with anyone looking to enhance their leadership skills in this way. Be sure to read the article in this issue of our newsletter by Dawn Abbott, our Regional Vice President, to give you a little more insight into leadership within ISES. That's it for now. I look forward to seeing all of you at Meet the Masters in November! Carol Roleder
2011/2012 President, ISES LA

Dawn Abbott Western Regional Vice President

Hello ISES Los Angeles Chapter!
It is my great pleasure and honor to be serving this year as the Western Regional Vice-President. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to your chapter and describe my ISES role to you.
My purpose is to connect the Western Region to each other as well as to connect the chapters to the bigger picture of ISES. I am here to be a liaison between The International Board of Governors, the Head Quarters office, and the chapter level leaders. There are approximately 7000 ISES members out there in this wide world and it is my hope that you are introduced to the bigger picture of the association and what being part of a large international organization can do for you.
The International Special Event Society is truly an International organization. There are 4 regions in the USA with about 50 chapters. There are also chapters on 4 continents; Australia, Asia, Europe, & North America. Our Western Region is currently at 11 chapters, which is the biggest region in the US both with number of chapters and geographic space. I mention all of that just so members can understand they are part of something much bigger than their local chapter.
I urge you all to get the very most you can get from your membership and get committed to getting involved. I can honestly tell you from experience that the more yougive the more you will get from your association. Your chapter needs you, think about the difference you can make by joining a committee or taking a board position. Involvement is the best way to build relationships within your industry and help to make your chapter more of what you want it to be. Currently your board is looking to fill a few positions, I am sure several of you have some talents that would help to round out the board. What do you think? If you want to get more from your membership reach out to your chapter leaders and learn more about how you can best get involved.
Please also let me know what I can do to help you. I want to be here to answer your questions, or find the answers for you. Also reach out to the ISES LA board of directors; your leaders need your voice, opinions, and talents. Thank you for your membership and have a great ISES Year!
